As an adult adoptee from a closed adoption, I appreciate your words.

Making my adoption story "mine" is a newer concept for me to grasp - as my story was always public information. Not that I minded - it's just how I grew up. My parents couldn't hide my transracial adoption, so I followed their lead about being comfortable discussing it with others.

However, being a closed adoption, there was a lot less information to share.

Thanks for the reminder that each adoptee can own their story - and have control over what is public and private.

Excellent. I struggle, like Melba, with whether or not I should post pictures. I'm very careful not to reveal on my blog or IRL details about our son's birthmother or anything like that. I do share his milestones, but I do that more because I look for that from others. I wonder if he's "on track" or whatever, and the baby books are too confusing. Real life info is so much more helpful.

I also don't use his name. And my pics are locked down so no one can steal them.

But it is a struggle knowing how much info is too much.

Great post and topic. I think this is SO important and I think we ALL walk a fine line as proud mamas and papas who also enjoy writing and need to write. Who connect through our writing. Sometimes there are stories that are just not ours to share. I worry about it a little bit with pictures too, although I clearly still share them. But when does it become too much. I would never, for example, want C. to go to school and already be known by his teacher b/c of my blog. It's all stuff I've been thinking about lately. I wonder when the time will come when I shouldn't be sharing ANY of his story with the WWW anymore? And when it does...what then??

Excellent post. I've seen blogs sharing all the details about a child that they did not adopt but were considering. It shocks me the amount of information people share that is not theirs to share. If I may be so bold it's almost as though they don't respect the child and biological parents enough to with hold that information from nosy people.
